Medicinal Properties In Essential Oils

November 19th, 2011 .

Ancient literature shows that the Egyptians were masters at blending aromatic oils, they may have been the first people to discover the healing properties in the plants that produce essential oils.

In 1922 when King Tut’s tomb was opened, they discovered an abundance of alabaster jars that were filled with about 100 gallons of essential oils.

“The Ebers Papyrus medical scroll reveals that Egyptian healers had a remarkably high success rate, treating as many as eighty-one diseases using oils of frankincense, cinnamon, myrrh, rosemary, galbanum, hyssop, cassia, and spikenard often mixed with honey.”  As doctor James L. Geiger, the oil/MD talks about in his book ” Your Doctor’s Natural Guide To A Longer, Healthier Life.”  The Sweet Smell of Success

How are essential oils being integrated into modern medicine to improve patient care?

The chemistry behind certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils  (CPTG) is being examined by the medical community. Essential oils as Dr. Geiger explained to me “are very versatile, one oil can simultaneously enhance the cellular immune system (increases lymphocytes)  while eradicating infectious organisms.”

A wellness project that was broadcast by  Fox News reported on the study that was done at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee. The medical center studied CPTG essential oils to see what affect they would have in their emergency room.

The study was done to help decrease stress and help increase energy. They ran the study by placing Aroma-Ace Diffusers around the emergency room, and diffusing Wild Orange, Lime, Lemon and Citrus Bliss .

The results surprised many of the 100 emergency room staff.

Before the study 41% of the emergency room staff were stressed at work, after diffusing the oils only 3% were stressed at work.

Prior to the study 60% of the emergency room staff were frustrated at work, after the diffusing of the essential oils only 6% were frustrated.

After observing closely the dramatic results from studies using essential oils, many health care providers and medical facilities are looking into how they might integrate essential oils into their private practices and their hospital settings.

Improvement for the work environment and to promote patient care outcomes should be in my opinion a necessary goal of all medical practices.

Wellness institutes like  California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Ca are offering essential oil aromatherapy as a complimentary medicine approach in their overall medical plan.

A doctor I know has integrated essential oils into his practice, he uses the essential oil of Ginger on his patients in the operating room to avoid post surgery nausea and vomiting.  Dr. James L. Geiger, in his latest book The Sweet Smell of Success “Your Doctor’s Natural Guide to a Longer Healthier Life”, explains the scientific validity of using essential oils as an integrative therapy.

It is my passion to continue educating myself and others on the uses for therapeutic grade essential oils.

The Healing Power of Essential Oils For Your Home

October 30th, 2011 .

Using Essential Oils for Healing In Your Home can be easy and become your way of taking charge and becoming more health conscious.

I have been using essential oils in my home for many years now on a daily basis.  They have made a enormous transformation to our health and wellness.

My education first came when I took a year long course by Jane Buckle Ph.D., RN.

I have continued my education since that time and I am continuing to learn more and to put these precious oils to work.   As I do this, I’m gaining more understanding about their potency, and the chemistry behind these wonderful oils.

The constituents in therapeutic grade essential oils (CPTG) are different from other oils.  CPTG essential oils are pure without contaminants.  I choose these oils for myself, my family, and my friends for two reasons, one is for their quality, meaning potency, and the healing properties that oils like Frankincense, Myrrh, Lavender, Lime and Lemon  have on our bodies.

Secondly you get what you pay for so the investment is well worth it, you are investing in your future for healthy aging by using CPTG essential oils.  Have you ever heard the phrase you get what you pay for.  Well that is exactly my point, that is why I choose to use CPTG essential oils for myself, my family, and my friends.

Pure essential oils are very potent therefore you don’t need as much.  The benefits are too numerable to mention all at once.

I recommend the continued education of essential oils.  They have put me in charge of the varying symptoms that go on in a household.

Here are a few suggestions: There are many more oils that can be used for these symptoms, I’m just naming a few for now.

Appetite (loss of appetite) …Lavender and Lemon

Appetite (suppress appetite)...Slim and Sassy Blend

Arthritis…Deep Blue Essential Oil Blend and Deep Blue Rub

Brain…Lavender and Lemongrass

Respiratory …Breathe Essential Oil  Blend On-Guard  Essential Oil Blend

Cleaning and Disinfecting with Essential oils…Use a couple of drops of lemon & melaleuca in a spray bottle to clean bathrooms and kitchens.

There are many uses and recipes for the use of essential oils.  I’m experimenting in the kitchen with oils like cinnamon and clove.   The holidays are coming and we can use these oils to spice up our traditional recipes or have new ones.

One to two drops of essential oils with a carrier oil will be beneficial when applying them to the body.   These oils are very potent and more is not necessary.

When applying essential oils to large areas of the body, diluting them with a carrier oil is best so that they are gentle to the skin, the recommendation is to dilute the oils as follows 15%-30% carrier oil is suggested.

There are several ways to use them.  One of the fastest ways to absorb them is when they are applied to the feet because of the large pores.

For Infants dilute one to three drops of essential oils to one tablespoon of a carrier oil.  For Children 2-5 yrs of age one to three drops to one teaspoon of a carrier oil.  The application of these oils for Infants and Children should be on the feet, then add socks or to the back, as well as a diffuser.

One of my favorite ways to use essential oils is to diffuse them throughout the day in my home.  Here are my two favorite diffusers.

1. Lotus Diffuser

2. Aroma Ace Diffuser

Please note these recommendations are for use with therapeutic grade essential oils. (CPTG)  (not FDA approved) Please use with caution and keep out of the reach of children.

The 24 Hour Anti Aging Plan…As Seen on the Dr. Oz Show

May 27th, 2011 .

The 24-Hour Anti-Aging Plan as seen on the Dr. Oz Show was fantastic so I wanted to share some of it with you. Here are 5 basic steps that you can change now and see results now.

Russ Greenfield, MD…Integrative Medicine Specialist was on the Dr. Oz Show to help explain why these changes work. These are small changes that you can start today.

5 Missions To Stop Aging

1 Wipe Out Wrinkles

Cut down on sugar. Replace it with products that do not contain added sugar. Take the supplement GTF chromium it is an important trace mineral that helps regulate blood sugar levels. Why is this important? Because sugar breaks down collegian.

2 Cut Off Cancer Cells

In order to try and stop cancer cells from growing deadly,  we need to cut off their blood supply, a process called anti-angiogenesis. Certain foods, particularly brightly colored fruits, contain substances with anti-angiogenic properties.

Try eating the Anti-Cancer Fruit Salad  made with papaya, blackberries and nutmeg at lunchtime everyday. All three of these foods help prevent blood vessels from nourishing cancer cells.

3. Eliminate Exhaustion

This isn’t a lack of sleep exhaustion, they are talking about cellular exhaustion. To eliminate cellular exhaustion, try astragalus, a medicinal Chinese plant shown to help rebuild genes by boosting the enzyme telomerase.

Understanding what telomere is.

Exercise everyday because regular exercise boosts energy levels. Researchers say nearly every group studied — from healthy adults, to cancer patients, and those with chronic conditions including diabetes and heart disease — benefited from exercise.

4. Defeat Dementia

To keep your brain active and free from disease we need to get rid of plaque.  We do that by eating an anti inflammatory diet.  Dr. Andrew Weil is an expert in health and wellness and here are his tips for eating an anti inflammatory diet.

As well as an anti inflammatory diet, eliminate nitrates, and take an Acetyl-L-Carnitine & Alpha-Lipoic Acid Supplement. High levels of anti oxidant production is also found in my product Vemma. Vemma Is The World’s Most Powerful Liquid Antioxidant.

5. Go To Bed

Enough sleep is critical to living a long life.  A comment that Dr. Weil mentioned in one of his articles was the less people sleep the more likely they are to become obese.

Five Take Charge Easy Steps can change your life as Dr. Oz and Dr. Greenfield mention in the 24 Hour Anti Aging Plan.

Uncle Sam’s High Fiber Cereal

May 19th, 2011 .

I like to write about health and wellness along with suggesting different ways that we can get more energy, stay active, get healthier all the while we are enjoying our healthy aging journey.

It’s pretty simple to eat healthy.  It just takes organizing and planning healthy meals for the week.

I’m sure you have heard over and over again the importance of a high fiber diet.

This is a very healthy way to start your day, add some veggie juice, some protein and your good to go.

I don’t enjoy cereal every morning but I have found “Uncle Sam’s” cereal to be enjoyable a couple of times a week.

Uncle Sam’s Original has only 1 gram of sugar with 7 grams of protein along with 10 grams of fiber in 3/4 cup.  That’s fantastic.  We need at least 35-45 grams and some suggest as much as 60 grams of fiber per day.

I like to mix Uncle Sam’s with Raisins and sometimes I add chopped walnuts, and blueberries.

I saw one recipe that had a parfait glass with layers of berries, Uncle Sam’s, and vanilla nonfat yogurt.

Other additions to your bowl of “Uncle Sam’s might be:

Fresh mango, bananas, black berries & strawberries or any other fruit that you enjoy.

If you add 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts and almonds it would add another 5 grams of protein for a total of 12 grams per 3/4 cup to 1 cup of cereal

The reason to eat Uncle Sam’s high fiber cereal is because it is loaded with flax seeds too, it could be part of your daily source of omega-3 fatty acids which cannot be made by the body and must be provided by your diet.

Uncle Sam’s is a suggestion in the South Beach Diet Plan as the high fiber cereal to eat. It recommends it because it is low sugar content and high fiber.

Uncle Sam’s has been around since 1908.  I’m glad I found it now because it really is a delicious and super nutrition breakfast cereal.

Promoting Wellness Through Nature

May 12th, 2011 .

Promoting Wellness Through Nature is a trademark of the OilMD, James L. Geiger MD .

Promoting “Essential Oils” for Healthy Aging is a passion of mine.

I use essential oils everyday, and frequently throughout my day for personal use and then at home I put essential oils in diffusers.

Essential oils are perfect to use as a mood booster, and they supply your home with wonderful smells as well as protection from airborne viruses and bacteria.

The benefits of essential oils in the home are fantastic if you want to live “green” it’s another avenue to stay healthy and reap the results for your entire family.

“Essential Oils” have so many healthful benefits.

I have been complimented many times for the calming, refreshing, mood boosting and aromatic atmosphere that I have in my home from the uses of essential oils.

At the top of my list to stay balanced throughout my day is the “Well Balanced Lady”  It will definitely lift you up and if you are experiencing PMS, Peri-Menopause, or Post Menopause it will help keep you feeling refreshed.

In February 2011 I wrote two blog posts on essential oils, Jasmine for Women and Essential Oils for Women and Men.  They are educating and inspiring.

We are aging, no one is immune from the aging process…so the phrase Anti-Aging really isn’t true in my opinion. The phrase “Healthy Aging”  I heard many years ago from Dr. Andrew Weil, so now I use it.

Healthy Aging makes perfect sense to me and the way we do it, is by taking care of ourselves on a daily basis. Of course there are many aspects to healthy aging.  A couple of the ones that come to mind are a positive attitude, exercise, healthy eating and the use of essential oils.

I would like to continue to show you the benefits of one of my favorite essential oils, ” Sandalwood” and its uses.

If you’re going to use essential oils use them throughout your day to get the full range of their benefits.

The Essential Oil of Sandalwood is extracted through steam distillation of pieces of wood from matured Sandal trees which are 40-80 years old (ideally it should be 80 years).

The OilMD’s “Well Balanced Lady” has sandalwood in it.  This is why I love it so much.

Organic Facts shows the capabilities of this unique essential oil.

carminativeis/ a herb or preparation that prevents formation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract.  diuretic/diuretics increase the excretion of water from the body, although each class does so in a distinct way.  disinfectant/ substance that is applied to non-living objects to destroy microorganisms that are living on the objects.  emollient/soothing to the skin expectorant/drains mucus from the lungs hypotensive/helps lower blood pressure.  memory booster/boosts memory.  sedative/ reduces irritability and excitement. tonic/An invigorating, refreshing, or restorative agent

Magnificent Mangosteen the “SuperFruit”

March 1st, 2011 .

Mangosteen when the antioxidant-rich power of  it is combined with vitamins, plant-sourced minerals, organic glyconutrient-rich aloe vera and decaffeinated organic green tea, the result is the ultimate nutritional foundation.

Because the mangosteen is combined with vitamins and minerals our digestive systems utilize the liquid nutrition properly. It benefits the human body so extensively when it is taken in adequate amounts daily.

Parents we have a product for children too.

It is called NEXT.   The formula was specifically designed for children ages 2-12.  With the right amount of vitamins and minerals along with the superfruit mangosteen and it’s creamy orange flavor it gives their growing bodies the immune support that they need.  The proper nutrition for our children is critical to their overall health and wellness.  In order for them to have peek performance in school makes the NEXT product the nutritional support they need to carry them into their adolescent years.

Mangosteen, known as the “Queen of all fruits” has been used for centuries by Asian health practitioners for its nutritional benefits and delicious flavor.

The Mangosteen plant has the micro plant nutrients that our bodies need. These nutrients are called xanthones.

Vemma” represents the most complex liquid nutritional program that I have ever seen!” says Dr. John Edwards, Bsc, MBBS of Healthy Oakland Clinic.

So many amazing scientific studies have been done to prove the antioxidant power of mangosteen.  Here is one from Pub Med.

“Potential of xanthones from tropical fruit mangosteen as anti-cancer agents”

The antioxidant effect of Vemma has been shown to enhance immune function.  As noted in the clinical studies it proved in the studies that Vemma showed significant improvements in immune markers, superior antioxidant absorption and a lowering of C-reactive protein (CRP), which points to its beneficial effects on overall health and wellness.

The recent clinical studies that Vemma has done will prove to the skeptic that mangosteen and minerals in the Vemma formula is a powerful way to change your overall health and wellness.

Our immune systems need help on a daily basis and the Vemma formula has proven 100% to have helped myself and my family.

Dr. Geiger, the OilMD has written a book called “The Sweet Smell of Success and he shares the importance of juice therapy.

Healthy Aging for Women and Men with Essential Oils

February 25th, 2011 .

I do promote Essential Oils for Healthy Aging because I have seen the results in myself, my family and friends.

Dr. James Geiger the oilMD offers in his book “The Sweet Smell of Success” guidance for the use of “Medical Aromatherapy in the 21st Century”.

“Essential oils are extracted oils from plants that give off aromatic and fragrant smells, they also act to normalize and regulate the systems of the body.”

“Essential oil phytomolecules impact intra-cellular synthesis pathways. Embodied in the chemical constituents found in these plant distillates are the energy and informational building blocks that produce complex emotional and intricate physiological effects in humans and animals.”

“Food is medicine. The FDA classifies essential oils as food. Learning the art and the science of aromatherapy is one avenue to increase health in this revolution of wellness.”

Essential oils are noted for their medicinal properties that  are exceedingly high in ORAC value (oxygen radical absorption capacity) to scavage free radicals associated with disease and aging.

Free radicals are harmful to the body. The human body is composed of many different types of cells.  Free radicals hurt these cells.

In brief “free radicals attack the nearest stable molecule, “stealing” its electron. When the “attacked” molecule loses its electron, it becomes a free radical itself, beginning a chain reaction. Once the process is started, it can cascade, finally resulting in the disruption of a living cell. Of particular importance is that free radical damage accumulates with age.

“Essential oils have crossover properties in clinical areas, for instance, oils of ginger, helichrysum and frankincense are true dual inhibitors of inflammation.”

“Since virtually all pain is due to inflammation, it is particularly dangerous when that inflammation in the human body is stealth enough that it does not cause pain. Because silent inflammation in the human body mostly means silent damage.” In my opinion this could mean silent disease.

In closing I would like to encourage you to make yourself your number one priority on a daily basis and use Essential oils and Essential nutrition. It is extremely important for healthy aging.
